Stopped in today on a whim for the first time and got hit with a wave of nostalgia. The record selection here is comprehensive and fairly priced, but the real gems are the CD and shirt sections. I haven't seen a well-curated CD selection in probably 15 years. It brought me back! There are lots of shirts that would easily be $100-300 from Etsy or vintage stores online, but are priced under $30 for most everything. The owner was nice AND there were cute shop dogs!! What more could you want from a record shop? They're definitely true to their name, I'll be back!

Excellent shop. A true jewel for the Pittsburgh area. Very well organized & genre specific. Constantly stocked with new releases and old favorites. The last place that I know where you can still buy a record for as cheap as a quarter. This is the PLACE in Pittsburgh for CD’s, records and cassettes. Knowledgeable & kind staff who truly love what they do and it shows through their shop. Very fair & transparent cash/store credit trade in policy. Probably the best in the area for giving you cash for your stuff. Easy parking, and easy to get to from downtown Pittsburgh. If you haven’t been here you’re truly missing out on what a real record shopping experience used to be. This place gets it.

This place is awesome. Owner is really knowledgeable. Selection is great. I found some really unique items. They have done a great job of recreating the music store experience from 20 or 30 years ago. Support this business, make sure he stays open! Thank you for the hard work you have done on this great store.

And on the 8th day God said let there be preserving record shop, a record store that buys back at a fair price, actually organizes local events, and separates subgenres of metal and rock into their respective genres instead of being under a broad "pop/rock", and He said that it was good.

One of the more interesting record stores you will go to. It is in an old church that is a dual record shop and concert venue so it is very unique. The owner decorates the shop with a lot of stuff that he was I believe using for his hardcore music museum and even if you aren't into hardcore music the art and artifacts on display are neat. One of the things I was surprised was the selection the owner has and has curated. He splits the shop between CD's and Vinyl and is looking to expand to cassettes. The selection is fantastic. The variety is there, you very well could find a Charles Mingus record in jazz, to some Kraftwerk in electronic, to hard rock and classic rock staples. He has a deceptively solid country vinyl selection. He breaks out a dollar room and you never know what you will find in there I found 2 gems there today. His CD room is very well organized and all CD's are clean! I think the three things you have to get under your belt when going to Preserving: #1 It is Cash only, he has an ATM #2 When looking for an artist it is the first name so if you are looking for per se David Bowie you would look under the D's. #3 One of the more unique curations for organization the owner has things by genre and it isn't like rock, blues jazz, you got Post Punk, Pyschedelic, etc. so maybe an artist you think is in one area might be another and the owner is gracious in pointing you to the direction. Lastly offers a fantastic CD resurfacer/cleaning of discs for $2 disc and he works with you if you bring in a lot. I took a few and the discs are brand new. I highly recommend Preserving Record Shop, it is truly an ideal music shopping experience!
