An iconic music shop with a massive selection. There are tons of CDs and vinyl records here. They're organized alphabetically. Backpacks are not allowed. You have to check in at the front. Even if you don't intend on buying anything, you should check out this iconic place.

I bought four CDs on clearance for under $10 including an original Paul Van Dyk "Seven Ways" album. There is another Amoeba store in Berkeley. This is the BEST vintage CD store I've been to. Lots of hard to find and gem music 💎🎶 🌞😎 ✌️ 💕 ⭐ ✨✨

Hard Lesson Learned - always check your sack!!!As a visitor from out of town I didn't check, until arrival home back in Florida. In fact, I was so shocked one of the items that I paid for wasn't present, I began to doubt my sanity and had to dig the receipt from out of the trash. I guess the clerk's name was "cassadyd" not sure. At any rate, that's why the four stars. And with screwy hours and the time difference, they were closed when I tried to call them, not that I can prove anything. So just FYI.Also, one other thing, when buying out-of-print items, specifically DVDs, be mindful, they just might not be genuine - I'll just leave that there. Unless you're okay with that. Sometimes cheaper has a reason. On the flip side (record joke, ha ha) I did score two Moby autographs...assuming he came in and just randomly signed a few things and stuck them amongst the stacks. One of which was in the bargain bin bookshelfs. Score, score!!!And there are alot of collectibles there. Alot! I could have spent an entire day in that store. There is literally sooo much stuff to look at: movie posters, music posters, books of all genres, music and movie t-shirts, every kind of vinyl, cds, blurays, cassettes, dvds, VHS, toys, audiophile cds, record playas, buttons -- each of which you will find some used, and some new on most items. It would be easy to spend a thousand dollars there in a blink of an eye. Or even so far as to buy a second suitcase, if travelling. lol.

very cool experience and nice tourist attraction for music. they have a ton of stuff and you could spend hours looking there. the only thing is that the music playing is very loud. it is a pretty uncomfortable volume.

It’s a trip to the past! This huge record store can take all your day and your money if you are a music fan! It’s amazing to think there are so many records , posters, and music history and parafernalia around this place that I hope it survives forever. I wish I could have taken more things home, this is an emblematic spot to visit in San Francisco and I hope it never dies.
